The user just created the page for Super releasio 64 and spammed the word "Toad" all over the page. I understand the gag as the hack is nothing but toad as all textures and noises. But not important for here
Gugaantony has been making profiles for romhack creators, which I think is a good thing, and might warrant the creation of a new infobox. Maybe include things like first hack, first release date, most popular hack (might as well use wiki traffic to judge), etc. Possibly a similar infobox for characters, and maybe even one for speedrunners as well (in which case we'd need to decide whether to have a general people infobox or specialized ones)
Also, thoughts on the males/females categories? I'm inclined to think that they aren't helpful and possibly even a bad thing to include.
Hmm...I was not aware of this, I do not get notifications on new pages that are being created. I am not honestly sure what information to give for actual hackers tbh. As a information site we can include as much as we want if we really want to dig deep...but I never thought about that.
Honestly, I dont know if an Infobox is really required. Just have a couple of sentances about the dude and then a list of their hacks.
for example the level lost lost woods with that pipe leading to the room where it always take you back into with any attempt to get out. well in the redone version 2.0 that area is replaced with a bunch of door where the player must pick the right door to advance to another room in order to advance to the star. the wrong door will take the player to the entrance to this section. the name for this star is changed to "The forest of doors"
Absolutely! There's a Star Revenge navigation box (StarRevenge under Templates) on the bottom of the SR pages, and Redone 2 is included in the Remake section (though it should probably be labelled 2.0). The only reason it doesn't have its own page is no one has gotten around to it yet. :P
Ya, this Wikia is still in the Beta stage in reguards to hacks and content, sadly. There is only a small fraction of the plethora of hacks out there that actually have articles on the Wikia. So feel free to add information about anything you want! A Wikia is a community driven site that allows any fan of the subject (in this case Super Mario 64 hacks) to add content as they wish. And worse comes to worse, a mod will correct it if there is a problem.
Btw, welcome to the Wikia and thanks for the content so far!
Thanks I hope I can get the comparison to the original and the first redone correct I use a mobile device emulator unlike computer emulator it doesnt read every roms or hacks and along with a few issues for one thing a level in the original I couldn't enter because it freezes when I attempt to enter the level and two the emulator wouldn't read the first remake version. so I'll put down what I know at least
Its no problem dude! Even if you can not get the comparisions correct, another contributor will most likely point it out. Also, you can always use videos to see (just dont use screenshots from videos as pictures). But ya, just put down whatever you want to contribute and the community will fill in the rest :)
-Moving the poll to the side is a huge improvement and looks great.
-I think the blue boxes (other than the poll section) "pop" a little too much, so they don't look like part of the page. My first thought when I glanced at them was that they were banner ads. The blue links against the blue boxes are a bit hard to see as well.
-I think I preferred the popular hacks as a list instead of all on one line. Cleaning up the list was a good idea, but I think that section should be more prominent, since being able to get to major hack pages quickly and easily is probably the most important function of the front page.
-I don't know if there's anything to be done about this, but I usually browse at 125% zoom, which stretches out the slideshows to fill the page but keeps the text boxes the same, so they overwhelm everything else. At 100% they look a lot more balanced, so I don't know if it's necessary to fix.
-Giving DS hacks almost as much page space as N64 hacks doesn't make much sense to me, but I don't play DS hacks at all so I'm biased.
-This is nitpicky but having SM74 next to Super Mario 74 EE is inconsistent and looks odd. .
- I agree that the poll needed to be moved. Easier to see and will hopefully get more resutls
- I know the Blue Boxes are obnoxious. This was teh first time I was testing that type of format, and plan to drastically reduce the color. I was kind of in a rush after spending hours learning how to do the simple changes and was lazy to look up more HEXs in that time.
-The hack list is still in progress. But the Front Page is supposed to be used as a nexus to get to other pages, and not just the list. Eventually I will add a big link to the Category page, but having some kind of short list for people who want to know. I also plan to include popular series and upcoming hacks. Though I will think about adding more, but the list will get very long and cluttered.
- I will look into a code to made the slideshows not dynamic, since I am usually at 125% too
- The thing about the DS hacks is that there was an editor before that only did DS hacks, who added ALL the DS hack information as well as that Slideshow. That being said, I have no idea how big the DS hack community is. That is why there isnt a "popular DS hacks" anymore besides the slideshow
- Gah...that really IS annoying!
But seriously thank you for the input, I need as much as possible. I want to make the Wikia as professional and help other get into and love these ROM hacks. I will work on fixing the problems and providing a log for what I do with the changes
I edit the level, play the level and it freezes after the first pair of pyramid platforms. At first, this was because I added too many Pokeys in the level. Now the level is almost EXACTLY the same as the original Super Mario 64, but it STILL freezes at the same area. Is there any way I can fix this without having to start making the whole hack all over again?
The best wayt to learn how to make a hack is either by watching videos (There are plent of tutorials on YouTube), or watching people make hacks themselves (some hackser stream level creation on Twitch such as BroDute (Star Revenge series) and Pieordie (Shinning Star Series).
